SVAY – Glory and Shadows
(1973–April 1975)
In the province of Svay Sisophon, the world seemed to hold its breath for a moment longer. While the civil war drew closer to the rest of the country, the young family here experienced their social ascent and their last vestige of normality.
The father was a respected ranger; they drove a car, they went out. It was a time of domestic peace, filled with the laughter of the three sons and the anticipation of the new baby. Supported by the grandmother, who had traveled from home, they felt safe. But an invisible shadow already hung over the marketplace and the rice paddies. This chapter is a farewell letter to a perfect world that shattered forever in April 1975.
